Motion Picture Association welcomes Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios as newest members

The Motion Picture Association (MPA) today announced that Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios will become the newest members of the global trade association, joining the world’s largest film, television and streaming companies.

Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios will officially join the MPA on October 1, becoming the association’s seventh member alongside Netflix, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery.

“The MPA is the global voice of a growing and evolving industry. By adding Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios to our ranks, we will expand our collective efforts to shape policy and protect content on behalf of our most innovative and creative companies,” said Charles Rivkin, MPA Chairman and CEO. “MPA Studios drive local economies, foster job creation, enrich cultures and strengthen communities wherever they operate. With Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios on our roster of exceptional members, the MPA will have an even stronger voice for the world’s greatest storytellers.”

“Amazon’s mission is to entertain customers around the world with compelling movies and television shows. To do that, we must support storytellers while helping to maintain a robust entertainment industry that works for both the studios and our creative partners,” said Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. “We are proud to join the MPA and its member studios in their collective efforts to protect creators, content and consumers worldwide.”

The global association works to advance the industry, protect its members’ content, defend the creative and artistic freedom of storytellers, and support innovative distribution models that offer more television choice to audiences everywhere.

Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios have worked with the association since 2017 and are board members of the MPA’s Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the world’s leading anti-piracy coalition. In addition, MGM was a member of the association from 1928 to 2005. Rivkin promoted Netflix to join the association in 2019.
