“From developing a robust data platform and a powerful native app to ensuring fast guaranteed delivery, global inventory availability, CDP, personalization, marketing optimization and customer loyalty – the list is endless. Our combined efforts have significantly improved the customer experience.”

“I’m taking a little break to recharge my batteries and look forward to starting my next chapter. Stay tuned!”

Instacart announces world’s first AI-powered smart trolley Caper Carts with Aldi

Instacart and Aldi Süd Group want to expand their partnership worldwide.

This includes the rollout of Instacart’s Connected Stores technologies across all of the retailer’s stores in the U.S., including In-Store Mode and Carrot Tags, as well as fulfillment technology to process e-commerce orders.

And the Aldi Süd Group in Austria is the first in Europe to test Caper Carts, Instacart’s AI-controlled intelligent shopping carts that are designed to simplify the payment process and personalize the shopping experience for customers.

Aldi has been working with Instacart since 2017 to offer same-day delivery to its customers in the US and will now use several Connected Stores technologies to further digitize its stores, including:

  • In-Store Mode: This allows customers to see what’s in stock, get important details about the items on their list, sort items by aisle, and access in-store specials and discounts through the Instacart app.

  • Carrot Tags: These have pick-to-light capabilities, meaning Instacart shoppers can select an item on their phone and the corresponding shelf label will flash. Carrot Tags have been introduced in more than 100 Aldi stores in Illinois and Ohio and will roll out nationwide in the coming months.

  • Collection processing technology: By leveraging the technology behind the Instacart Shopper app, Aldi South Group is streamlining order fulfillment for its e-commerce pickup orders.

  • Caper wagon: Customers will find the shopping carts near the store entrance. They can start shopping by putting items directly into the cart and keeping an eye on the total amount on the digital screen. If the customer pays by card, the checkout is accessible via a “fast lane”.
