More women have reportedly made allegations against Jermaine Jenas | Match of the Day

More women have reportedly made allegations against television presenter Jermaine Jenas, who was sacked by the BBC from Match of the Day and The One Show following complaints about his workplace conduct.

Jenas, 41, is apparently “speaking to lawyers” after his contract with the BBC was terminated because he allegedly sent unsolicited messages to a colleague on The One Show.

The Sun, which broke the story, reported that other women had come forward as part of the investigation into alleged messages from the married father of four. The BBC declined to comment.

The former England international was taken off both primetime shows.

He said that “every story has two sides,” adding that he was “not happy” and would seek legal advice.

Jenas, who played for Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, was sacked by the corporation following complaints about his workplace conduct. The BBC reported that his contract was terminated this week over alleged issues relating to his workplace conduct. The allegations concerned digital communications, including text messages, which were brought to the corporation’s attention several weeks ago, the BBC reported.

He was co-hosting a drive-time show on TalkSport when it was announced on Thursday afternoon that he had been removed from all presenting roles at the BBC.

TalkSport later said there were no plans for Jenas to return as a presenter “in the near future”.

BBC Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore said she was aware of the situation but could not provide “further information” when contacted by news agency PA Media after speaking on a BBC panel at the Edinburgh TV Festival.

A BBC spokesman said on Thursday: “We can confirm that Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting team.”

He was on air for the company for the last time at the beginning of the summer.

In an interview with TalkSport Radio on Thursday, Jenas repeatedly said: “I can’t really talk about it” when asked about the allegations. “I’m not happy about it, as you can probably tell,” he told the station.

“I’ll just have to leave this to a team of lawyers at this point who will, yeah, I guess, just handle the situation,” he said.

Jenas earned between £190,000 and £194,999 at the BBC last year for his work on Match of the Day and coverage of the FA Cup and World Cup. He was widely seen as a natural successor to Gary Lineker as host of Match of the Day, but was conspicuously absent from the first episode of the new season on Saturday.

His salary for working on The One Show has not been made public because the show is produced by BBC Studios, the BBC’s commercial production company, which does not disclose its salary payments to presenters.

Jenas is also employed by TNT Sports, a group of pay-TV sports channels.

Staff were informed of his departure from the BBC in an email from BBC Sport Director Alex Kay-Jelski on Thursday afternoon, which read: “Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know that Jermaine Jenas is no longer working for the BBC. Thank you Alex.”
