More than 900,000 customers in South Carolina are still without power days after Helene’s accident

Days after the effects of Hurricane Helene hit South Carolina, nearly a million customers are still without power.

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, 904,051 customers in the Palmetto State were still reporting outages, according to poweroutage.us. That’s about a third of the 2,818,951 South Carolina customers covered by the branch.

Nearly 75,000 of the outages were reported in Richland (30,648) and Lexington (43,396) counties. A total of 107,763 customers in the Midlands said they had no power.

Most of the ongoing outages occurred in the Upstate region of South Carolina.

Dominion Energy said 132,572 of its 820,703 customers were still reporting outages after Helene hit South Carolina with heavy rain and strong winds on Thursday and Friday. More than 45,000 Dominion customers in Richland (24,981) and Lexington (21,696) counties were still in the dark Sunday morning.

Dominion reported that power was restored to about 300,000 customers who suffered power outages due to the storm.

An additional 233,895 outages were reported by the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, including 81,000 in the Midlands.

Of the 541,427 outages reported by Duke Energy in South Carolina, 2,195 occurred in or near the Midlands region.

South Carolinians are also advised to carry a flashlight and extra batteries and to keep cell phones and mobile devices charged in case the power goes out.
