Handsets in the Rs 10,000-20,000 price range dominate the country’s smartphone industry, accounting for over 40 percent of the total market, according to Anish Kapoor, CEO of Infinix India. Kapoor said demand for 5G-enabled handsets has increased in the recent past and devices in the Rs 10,000-20,000 price range are in higher demand than sub-Rs 10,000 devices that used to dominate the market.
The stagnation of the past two years has changed and the market has started growing again, said Kapoor, who was in Lucknow on Thursday to attend the launch of the company’s latest smartphone, the Note 40X 5G.
“…earlier, phones priced below Rs 10,000 dominated the Indian market with a share of about 35-40 per cent. Now, the largest market share has gone to phones in the Rs 10,000-20,000 price range, which is almost 43 per cent,” Kapoor told PTI.
He attributed the new trend to users’ preference for improved features and the latest technology.
“We also see that since the advent of 5G technology, everyone wants a 5G phone. The demand for 5G technology has increased. Currently, the prices of 5G phones start at INR 10,000-11,000,” Kapoor said.
Talking about his company’s performance in the local market, the CEO of Infinix India said, “Uttar Pradesh is one of the biggest markets for us both online and offline and the response has been phenomenal for us as a brand.”
He said the company has tried to “create groundbreaking products and premium features in cheaper segments, and that’s what we’re known for as a brand.”
