Mobile phone services in Karachi, Pakistan, remain suspended

The Sindh Home Division has decided to Mobile services in various districts, including Hyderabad and Karachiafter a violent incident between two religious groups in the Golimar area.
The aim of this decision is to ensure safety during the Chehlum processions and gatherings in honor of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
Unidentified assailants opened fire during an Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) rally on Sunday, killing two people and injuring nine others. The incident escalated tensions and required a significant police deployment to restore order.
Apart from Karachi and Hyderabad, several other districts such as Dadu, Thatta, Sajawal, Khairpur and Larkana will also experience complete outage of mobile service. However, mobile service will continue to be available in Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpurkhas.
“The aim of the decision is to ensure security of Chehlum procession and gatherings in honour of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in Karachi and other parts of Sindh,” ARY News reported.
The violence occurred as an ASWJ demonstration was marching through Golimar. The attackers not only fired gunshots but also threw stones, causing chaos and leading to violent clashes between two local religious organizations. The identity of the attackers remains unknown.
Injured participants were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals where they were given immediate medical attention. “The injured were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Civil Hospital and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they are currently receiving medical attention,” confirmed police surgeon Dr. Sumiya.
The police have taken comprehensive measures to control the increased tensions and maintain public safety in the affected areas.
The suspension of mobile service is intended as a precautionary measure to prevent further escalation of violence and to ensure the safety of participants in religious events across Sindh.
