MLB Strikeout Props for September 25: Richard is the one

After a strong run in strikeout props, we’re off the starting blocks this week with a 1-5 record after two days. We still have time to turn this week into a profitable one, so we’ll start with our top three favorite K-props for the MLB slate on Wednesday night.

Richard Fitts under 3.5 (-145 DraftKings)

Fitts hasn’t allowed a single run in his first three MLB starts, but he’s not doing that by piling up a ton of swings and misses. The rookie has only seven strikeouts in 15.2 innings, giving him a minuscule 11.1 percent K rate and 14.7 percent whiff rate. We expect more of the same on Wednesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays, who have the second-highest chase contact rate and fourth-lowest whiff rate in MLB this season. Toronto also has the third-lowest strikeout rate against right-handers over the past two weeks (17.8 percent).

David Peterson over 4.5 Ks (-110 DK)

Peterson is only in the 19th percentile in strikeout rate (19.1 percent) this season, but that changes when he faces the Atlanta Braves. In 109 total at-bats against Peterson, current Braves hitters have just a .188 batting average and a 30.1 percent K-rate. The New York Mets left-hander has seven strikeouts in his only start against the Braves this year. Peterson has also been an effective inning-eater of late, reaching at least the sixth inning in six of his last eight starts.

Jose Suarez under 4.5 Ks (+120 FanDuel)

Suarez primarily pitches out of the bullpen, so he’s not used to eating innings or throwing more than 50 pitches in a game. We expect the Los Angeles Angels left-hander to last four or five innings at most in this matchup. The Chicago White Sox obviously don’t have a great lineup, but that lineup implies they’re one of the teams in MLB most likely to have strikeouts. Chicago ranks just 16th in strikeout rate against lefties this month (25.3 percent), so Suarez can stay under that number.
