Minot State women’s golf ranked 8th by NSIC coaches; Cormier golfer in the spotlight

MINOT, ND – The final preseason poll for fall sports was released Friday and the Minot State women’s golf team was ranked in the middle of the pack by the NSIC coaches.

The Beavers were selected to finish eighth at next spring’s NSIC Championship when the league announced its 2024-25 NSIC women’s golf preseason coaches poll and preseason golfer of the year. The Beavers received 45 points in the coaches’ vote.

The Minot State women’s and men’s golf teams open the 2024-25 season in three weeks. The women will play in the Tracy Lane Memorial hosted by Bemidji State and the men’s Bemidji State Invitational on Sept. 9 and 10 at Bemidji Town and Country Club. The 2024-25 NSIC Golf Championships will be held in April 2025.

While Minot State was selected eighth, Taylor Cormier was highlighted as one of the NSIC golfers to watch for the Beavers this season. Cormier is a senior from Corner Brook, Newfoundland, who is playing her fifth season with the Beavers and finished 30th at the 2023-24 NSIC Championship last spring, shooting 37-over-par 253 (85-84-84).

Augustana, the defending NSIC champion who has won 13 of the last 14 league titles, was voted top in the preseason poll with nine first-place finishes and 119 points. Minnesota State, Mankato, was No. 2 in the coaches’ poll with two first-place finishes and 108 points.

Winona State was picked to finish third with 91 points, a narrow favorite by one point over Sioux Falls in fourth with 90 points, and Wayne State was picked to finish fifth with 81 points. Concordia, St. Paul took the other first place pick and was picked sixth by the coaches with 80 points, then Southwest Minnesota State was picked to finish seventh with 50 points, Minot State was picked to finish eighth with 45 points, Mary was picked to finish ninth with 43 points, Minnesota Crookston was picked to finish with 10th With 39 points, Bemidji State was 11th.th with 27 points and Minnesota State Moorhead was 12th with 19 points.

Sioux Falls graduate Maggie Veenendall, a three-time All-NSIC First Team member, was named the 2024-25 preseason best golfer.
