Minnesota Governor Tim Walz visits West Michigan for the first time since his nomination

Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz will take the stage in Grand Rapids on Thursday, his first solo visit since accepting the Democratic vice presidential nomination.

During this first of two stops in the Great Lakes swing state, Walz is expected to “mobilize support, build enthusiasm and reach the voters who will decide this election” as Election Day draws closer.

Following his speech in Grand Rapids, Walz will hold political events in Grand Rapids and Lansing on Friday before flying to his next stop in Wisconsin, according to organizers.

Before his visit on Thursday, Walz had already visited Detroit with his running mate Kamala Harris to canvass for votes.

He also talked about reproductive rights, the economy and how the duo will help the Great Lakes State.

“Every day of her life, Vice President Harris fights for the American people,” Walz said. “She has taken on predators, con artists and transnational gangs, you’ve heard that.”

Across the aisle, presidential candidate Donald Trump recently spoke at the National Guard Association of the United States conference in Detroit.

This was his first appearance as a keynote speaker since 2016.

Although the economy and inflation, as well as controversial social issues, were discussed by both campaign teams, Trump’s remarks focused more on national security and the safety of our armed forces.\

“I am in this fight to win back America’s future. We will restore world peace,” Trump told a crowd of more than 4,000 National Guard officers, their spouses and other guests.

As of Monday, Trump is scheduled to give a speech in Tucson, Arizona, on Thursday, followed by a rally on Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to his campaign website.
