Although the Milwaukee Brewers are 5-1 in their last six games, this may not be the best time to host the Los Angeles Dodgers at American Family Field.
Why? After missing eight weeks with a broken wrist, Dodgers star shortstop Mookie Betts returns to the lineup this week. Right-hander Walker Buehler is also expected to return to the Dodgers’ starting lineup on Wednesday night, and Jack Flaherty — a starter acquired at the trade deadline — will pitch in the series finale against Tobias Myers on Thursday.
With a record of 69-49, the Dodgers are tied with the Philadelphia Phillies and are only one game ahead of the Brewers (67-50) in the loss table, giving them a bye in the first round of the National League playoffs.
Even though the Brewers hold a 7½-game lead in the NL Central, this week could feel like October as they play seven straight home games against two first-place teams.
After the home opener, the Brewers have nine games remaining against teams currently in the NL postseason — six against Arizona and three against Philadelphia. They also have six games remaining against the St. Louis Cardinals, their closest challengers in the Central Division.
