Microsoft 365 is down for thousands of users, Downdetector shows

(Reuters) – Microsoft’s productivity software suite was down for thousands of users on Thursday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

This comes nearly two months after a faulty software update from cybersecurity service provider CrowdStrike affected nearly 8.5 million Windows devices and brought operations to a standstill in numerous industries, from airlines and banking to healthcare.

“We are investigating an issue where users may be unable to access multiple Microsoft 365 services,” the Windows parent company said in a post on X.

Microsoft did not immediately respond to inquiries about the nature and cause of the outage or when recovery is expected. However, on X, the Azure cloud platform said it was investigating customer reports of a possible problem connecting Microsoft services to AT&T’s networks.

The telecommunications operator did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to Downdetector, there have been nearly 23,000 cases of users reporting issues with Microsoft 365. The company tracks outages by compiling status reports from a number of sources, including bugs reported by users on its platform.

More than 4,000 users also reported issues related to Microsoft Teams.
