Crozer Health’s plan to convert Springfield Hospital into a 10-bed microhospital has been put on hold.

Plans to create a 10-bed microhospital at Springfield Hospital have been put on hold because of the possible sale of Crozer Health to CHA Partners, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Crozer is also halting plans to reactivate the emergency department on the Springfield campus, which closed in 2022, and to reinstate radiology services and outpatient imaging.

The Springfield campus remains open for outpatient physical therapy, maternal and child medicine, and home health and hospice care. There are also physician offices on campus.

In March, Crozer Health CEO Tony Esposito said there were plans to convert the 38-bed Springfield Hospital into a 10-bed microhospital with a fully staffed emergency department.

Prospect Medical Holdings, the California-based parent company of Crozer Health, has a letter of intent to sell Crozer to CHA, a Bloomfield, New Jersey-based real estate investment company that specializes in the revitalization of distressed healthcare properties.

The takeover will involve the conversion of Crozer Health’s four hospitals into non-profit organizations.

CHA had previously acquired three closed hospitals in North Jersey and another in New York and then converted them for non-inpatient hospital uses, such as outpatient and long-term care.
