Mick Jagger’s girlfriend Melanie Hamrick is not bothered by the 44-year age difference between the couple.
“I don’t think about it,” Hamrick, 37, said in an interview with The Sunday Times published on September 22.
“Everyone has their own opinion,” added the former professional ballerina. “If you think about other people’s opinions, no matter where you are in life, you will have a problem and analyze it.”
“I put blinders on. Am I happy? Yes. Are the people in my life happy? Yes. Am I hurting anyone? No. OK, they can mind their own business,” Hamrick said.
The 81-year-old Jagger met his current girlfriend in February 2014 at a Rolling Stones concert in Tokyo. Hamrick, then 26, got tickets to the show as a dancer with the American Ballet Theatre.
Hamrick recalled Jagger greeting her with a fist bump when they met backstage.
The following month, Jagger’s girlfriend of 13 years, fashion designer L’Wren Scott, committed suicide. That summer, Jagger began dating Hamrick.
Hamrick told the Sunday Times that she was not particularly impressed with Jagger at the beginning of their relationship.
“Ballet dancers meet some of the biggest stars and act like they’re asking, ‘Who are you?’ Because to us, ballet dancers are the gods. They’re the ones you study and look up to. You’re so in your own world,” she explained.
The interview also revealed that the couple splits their time between a rented townhouse in New York City and a chateau on the Loire River in France, where their seven-year-old son Deveraux attends school.
“Mick can’t stay in one place, and I feel the same way,” Hamrick said. “I say, ‘I want to stay in one place.’ And then after two weeks, I ask, ‘Where are we going?'”
Jagger and Hamrick welcomed Deveraux in 2016.
“Melanie Hamrick and Mick Jagger’s son was born in New York today and they are both overjoyed,” a spokesperson for the couple said in a statement at the time. “Mick was in hospital for the birth. Mother and baby are doing well and we ask the media to respect their privacy at this time.”
Jagger has a total of eight children: daughter Karis, 53, with actress Marsha Hunt; Jade, 52, with his ex-wife Bianca Jagger; sons James, 39, and Gabriel, 26, and daughters Elizabeth, 40, and Georgia May, 32, with ex-wife Jerry Hall; and son Lucas, 25, with Luciana Gimenez Morad.
Last year, Jagger and Hamrick sparked engagement rumors when she was seen wearing what turned out to be an engagement ring.
“I mean, I have to giggle, because did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it for this finger? Yes,” she told PEOPLE in June 2023.
“But are we like horny teenagers who… In my eyes, that’s an engagement ring. We would be immature and call it an engagement ring,” Hamrick added.
When asked if she could imagine marrying Jagger, Hamrick said: “I don’t know. I’m more of a live-in-the-now kind of guy, so who knows.”
