Michigan’s largest flea market returns this weekend – The Voice

Michigan’s largest flea market returns this weekend, with events planned in waterfront communities from New Baltimore to Bay City.

The M-29/M-25 Yard Sale Trail invites both experienced treasure hunters and new adventurers to explore the state’s coastal Thumb region. Dozens of sales and events are planned, from farmers markets and festivals to concerts and more.

“It’s not just about the finds – it’s about connecting to the heart of Michigan,” said organizer Jason Schofield in this year’s event brochure.

“Aside from the thrill of finding unique bargains, this trip offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in vibrant local culture and discover special community events along the way,” he added.

The trail, which officially runs Friday through Sunday, includes dozens of stations along more than 150 miles. At the southern end of the trail, sales begin at the New Baltimore Trade Center on 23 Mile Road. The city’s flea market also runs Thursday through Saturday at City Hall.

Tips and Tricks

Trail organizers offered the following tips to ensure a successful flea market experience:

• Stay hydrated: The August sun can be very intense, so bring a refillable water bottle and drink regularly. Many flea markets may not have drinks available, so staying hydrated is important.

• Comfortable clothing: Opt for light, breathable clothing and comfortable walking shoes. A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses can also protect you from the sun. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to avoid sunburn.

• Prepare snacks: Pack a small cooler or bag with snacks like fruit, nuts and granola bars to keep you energized and avoid having to search for food between stops.

• Plan your route: Before you leave, plan the flea markets you want to visit to make the most of your time and reduce detours. Check local directories or community boards for flea market opening times and locations.

• Bring cash: Many flea markets only accept cash, so bring enough cash to pay for your purchases. Small bills and coins are especially useful for quick transactions.

• Stay cool: Keep a small portable fan or cooling towel in your bag to keep you comfortable while surfing.
