Michigan Lottery recognizes September as Responsible Gaming Awareness Month

September is Responsible Gambling Awareness Month and the Michigan Lottery is highlighting the availability of prevention, treatment and recovery services in the state of Michigan.

As we kick off Responsible Gaming Education Month, the Lottery continues to remind players that the National Problem Gambling Helpline is available to provide free, personalized support to players who may be experiencing a problem. For confidential help, players can call 1-800-GAMBLER 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Chat and text options are also available at www.michiganlottery.com.

“The Lottery is committed to encouraging Michigan residents to enjoy our games responsibly,” said Michigan Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “We offer a variety of tools and resources to make online gaming fun and safe, and lottery retailers have access to responsible gaming information that can be shared with those who purchase lottery products. Most importantly, free and confidential resources are available to anyone who believes they may have a gambling problem by calling 1-800-GAMBLER.”

Each year, the lottery contributes $1 million to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Gambling Addiction Prevention Fund, which funds statewide gambling addiction education and treatment programs.

Players who play the lottery’s online games have access to several safeguards and responsible gaming tools, including:

  • Various self-exclusion periods
  • Daily and weekly deposit limits
  • Daily loss limits
  • Different cool-off times
  • Age verification during account registration
  • Game history to monitor game activity

Since its founding in 1972, the Michigan Lottery has been committed to teaching responsible gaming to players across the state. In 2015, the Michigan Lottery became the first lottery in the United States to receive Internet Compliance Assessment Program (iCAP) certification from the National Council on Problem Gambling for its commitment to responsible online gambling. The Michigan Lottery has also received Responsible Gaming Verification (RG Verification) certification from the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries and the NCPG.
