Michael Strahan’s daughter gives birth to a boy

Michael Strahan is officially a grandfather.

The New York Giants legend made the announcement live during the Fox NFL Sunday Show. On September 22, Strahan opened the show alongside Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long by announcing that his eldest daughter Tanita had given birth to a baby boy. The newborn’s name is Onyx, according to People.

His Fox team wished him “Congratulations, Grandpa” after he made the statement.

Strahan clapped his hands and beamed the entire time the show began.

“Yes, folks, I’m a grandfather,” said the Good Morning America host.

“My daughter Tanita had my grandson, his name is Onyx.

“That means black, in case you were wondering.

“It’s really special because I know you’ve been through this.”

Long, already a grandfather, added: “Grandchildren are great”

Bradshaw, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback icon, then asked for an update on Tanita’s health. “Is the daughter OK?” to which Strahan replied, “The daughter is doing fantastic.”

Tanita, 32, is the eldest of Strahan’s four children. He has Tanita with his first wife, Wanda Hutchins. She was born in Germany but lived in Houston, Texas, until her parents divorced. She then moved back to Germany with her mother.

According to her Instagram page, Tanita has not publicly addressed her pregnancy.

“I’ve never been the type of person who is fascinated by stars,” Tanita told People in 2016, noting that her time in Europe “grounded” her.

“When I grew up in Germany, nobody cared about such things,” she added.

Earlier this year, the former New York Giants player announced that his twin daughter Isabella had been diagnosed with brain cancer.

One day before her 19th birthday, she underwent emergency surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor (medulloblastoma).
