Michael Keaton might be ready to change his name to Michael Keaton Douglas

Michael Keaton might change his name professionally.

The actor, born Michael Douglas, was unable to use his birth name early in his career because the Screen Actors Guild prohibited its members from using the same name professionally as other actors. Since both Michael Douglas and Mike Douglas were taken, he had to choose a new surname.

He chose his now famous nickname in an unexpected way. “I looked through – I can’t remember if it was a phone book,” the actor said People Magazine. “I must have thought, ‘I don’t know, let me think of something here.’ And I thought, ‘Oh, that sounds reasonable.'”

Now, after more than 30 years, he tells Peoplehe is ready to change his stage name to Michael Keaton Douglas. The name was supposed to make its debut in the film he recently directed. Knox leavesbut that didn’t work.

“I said, ‘Hey, just as a heads up, my credits are going to be Michael Keaton Douglas.’ And it completely slipped my mind. And I forgot to give them enough time to put it in and create it. But that’s what will happen,” he said. His credits in the upcoming Beetlejuice The sequel will be released under the title “Michael Keaton”.

Just as Keaton returns to his roots with his name change, he revisits one of his most famous roles in Tim Burton’s new film. During a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, the actor explained how Beetlejuice has evolved in the new installment. “I think it’s obvious that my character has matured,” he said. “As slick and sensitive as he was in the first one, I think he’s even more so in this one. Just his overall caring nature and his sense of social mores and his political correctness.”
