Michael Barrymore has testified that a “child on a bicycle” snatched his phone during a robbery in broad daylight in southeast London.

The 71-year-old comedian and television presenter was filming an upcoming project when the young cyclist quickly snatched his smartphone from his hand on Tuesday, February 13.

Barrymore, known as the host of “Strike It Lucky,” “My Kind Of People” and “Kids Say The Funniest Things,” was filming a segment for “Secret London” in Bermondsey, his childhood neighborhood, when the incident occurred.

For the piece, he visited places from his childhood and youth in South and North London.

In a TikTok video, he said: “I was out filming this morning and the first thing that happened was a kid on a bike stole my phone. So that was not a good start.”

He added: “I’m going to call the police now and see if I can get my phone back from this little wanker.”

In a subsequent video montage, he then made fun of the alleged thief and said: “Hello everyone.

“I hope you all had a lovely Tuesday. Except you (the little brother on the bike who stole my phone from my hand in Bermondsey this morning). Your parents don’t love you.”

His admission sparked sympathy among his 2.3 million followers on social media.

“I aspire to be this funny when I’m old,” said one. Barrymore replied, “I’m not kidding, Libs, I got robbed this morning.”

“Sorry this happened to you Michael. London is going downhill. Hope you’re OK,” said another.

Barrymore said he reported the incident to the Metropolitan Police, who were “extremely helpful”.

Michael lived on the Dickens Estate in Bermondsey for the first 18 years of his life.

The Metropolitan Police have been contacted for comment.
