Miami University vs. No. 17 Notre Dame – Live updates and score

For Notre Dame on Saturday, there is an element of: “How about we try it again?” The No. 17 Fighting Irish (2-1) hosts a Central American Conference This is the second time in three weeks that they’ve faced an opponent. They hope that it will go better than the first time.

Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois 16-14 in Week 2. The Irish play Miami (Ohio) (0-2) this afternoon. The Irish-RedHawks game begins on NBC at 3:30 p.m. ET. Follow below for live updates of the game and a score breakdown.

First quarter

• The Irish win the coin toss and postpone the reception opportunity until the second half.

• Notre Dame’s defense forces Miami to punt on its first possession, but in its first game since Week 1 Jordan Faison botched the following punt. Teammate Jaden Mickey was right in front of Faison as he attempted to catch the ball. The RedHawks recovered the ball at the Irish 26-yard line.

• However, the Irish defence gets back to work and catches a Brett Gabbert Pass near the goal line to get the Notre Dame offense on the field for the first time today. Corner Christian Grey attacked the ball on the short attempt, and it was deflected into the air for Defensive End Junior Tuihalamaka pick up.

• The Irish offense concedes a three-and-out on its first offensive possession of the day, complete with a false start penalty against the sophomore left guard. Sam Pendleton.

• Notre Dame’s defense leaves the field on fourth and sixth attempts due to tight coverage by the second-year safety Adon Schuler. However, it looks like he got away with the physical assault. Only a few minutes left in the first quarter and the game is still scoreless.

• Notre Dame had a good drive until Riley Leonard missed two easy rollout throws to open targets on back-to-back plays. Then the Irish got a penalty for holding on a Leonard scrum. He hit Jaden Greathouse for a good gain in yardage to get into Mitch Jeter’s field goal range, but the snap was bad on an attempt that would have cost 51 yards. Jeter picked the ball up off the ground and tried to make a play, but his pass was incomplete.

• The first quarter ends scoreless. Miami advances into Notre Dame territory…

Second quarter

• Notre Dame officially loses again at home to a MAC team. The RedHawks take a short field goal to take a 3-0 lead. It’s actually a good job by the Irish defense to limit the visitors to just that.

RESULT: Miami 3, Notre Dame 0 (12:32 remaining in the first half)

• Notre Dame tries to get something going with a reverse from Jayden Harrison to Jeremiyah Love on a kick return, but an illegal block in the back leads to a healthy return by Love. Everything seems to be going wrong for the home team.

• The Irish have to punt the ball after a three-and-out. Three consecutive runs by the Irish gain three yards.

• The Irish methodically move the ball down the field, covering 87 yards in 10 plays and getting into the end zone for the first time on an 8-yard touchdown run by Leonard. Notre Dame takes the lead. Leonard makes some nice passes on the drive, not too far from the line of scrimmage. Dink and dunk. Junior tailback Jadarian Price also had some strong rushing gains and there were pass interference and face mask flags that also helped the Irish.

RESULT: Notre Dame 7, Miami 3 (3:33 remaining in the first half)
