Mexico 0-0 Canada (10 September 2024) Match Analysis

Mexico and Canada played out a 0-0 draw in a friendly match at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Tuesday.

The spectacle, which was played in front of 32,623 spectators, quickly showed how proactive Canada is. Motivated by the 2-1 victory against the USA last Saturday, head coach Jesse Marsch and his men wanted to apply pressure Restaurante El Tri defensive line, so that the opponents often have to chase after the ball.

Mexico, led by new coach Javier Aguirre, responded with a combative approach, collecting a total of 13 fouls and two yellow cards in the first half.

Due to the many interruptions and restarts in the game, both goalkeepers had little to do at the beginning of the friendly match.

Until the 43rd minute.

After a dangerous header by Canadian Cyle Larin, Mexican goalkeeper Luis Angel Malagon had to make a spectacular save shortly before half-time.

At the start of the second half, Mexico began to exert more attacking pressure. In the 54th minute, striker Santiago Giménez almost scored the first goal when his shot from close range was stopped by Canadian goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair.

In the 72nd minute, St. Clair scored again and prevented a goal by winger Roberto “Piojo” Alvarado with an acrobatic save.

Despite Mexico’s late advance and a few shots on goal by Canada in the second half, the score was 0-0 for both teams until the final whistle.

Mexico ends its first series under Aguirre, who was previously coach The Tri 2001/02 and 2009/10) with a win and a draw after beating New Zealand 3-0 at the weekend. Mexico returns next month with friendlies against Valencia on October 12 and the United States on October 15.

With a similar record of 1 win, 1 draw and 0 losses during the break, Canada ends the international break undefeated after their previous win over the USA. Moving forward, they will face Panama in a friendly on October 15.
