Meteorologist Hollie Strano says she was fired from WKYC Channel 3

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Meteorologist Hollie Strano announced on Facebook Monday that she was laid off of WKYC Channel 3, several months after returning to work following a drunken driving arrest.

Strano said in her Facebook post Monday morning that WKYC and Tegna, WKYC’s parent company, had decided to end her employment relationship after 22 years. She said this happened after she made her recovery journey public.

“I believe WKYC and Tegna’s actions highlight the stigma of addiction that so many people in our community face every day,” Strano said.

Cleveland.com has reached out to WKYC for comment.

On Thanksgiving night, Strano crashed her vehicle into a utility pole in Cuyahoga Falls and was arrested with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit. She later pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and was sentenced to a six-day driver intervention program in lieu of jail time and a $375 fine plus court costs.

On January 23, Strano expressed her “deep remorse” for the events of that night on social media.

“As tragic as it was and as cliché as it may sound, I believe this had to happen to me to send me on this healing journey of sobriety and introspection,” she wrote.

She was off the air until February, when she returned to WKYC, but instead of her usual slot on the station’s morning show, she now appeared on the Saturday and Sunday morning newscasts and Monday and Tuesday evening newscasts.

Strano said on Facebook on Monday that she has been and will continue to be “honest and authentic” on her journey to sobriety.

“My sobriety and health remain my top priority, and I am also very grateful for the tremendous love and support that so many of you have shown me along the way,” Strano said.
