Men’s basketball returns to Devaney on October 13th – University of Nebraska

A new event has found an old home as the Nebraska men’s basketball team will host a free Red/White scrimmage on Sunday, October 13th at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

This is the first time in Fred Hoiberg’s six seasons that the Huskers have hosted an open scrimmage for fans, and the 2024 Red/White Scrimmage will take place at the Devaney Center, which served as the home of Husker hoops from 1976 to 2013.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the Devaney Center will have a reduced capacity for the event, with approximately 6,000 seats available. Concessions will be open and gates will open one hour prior to scrimmage. The scrimmage itself will be a full game simulation.

“We wanted to do something different and give our fans a chance to see the team in action in a competitive environment before our exhibition game,” Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said. “The event at the Devaney Center will be a completely different experience for our players and will provide a good environment. We had some memorable games with Coach Nee’s teams when I played at Iowa State, and I coached at the Devaney Center during Nebraska’s final year in the Big 12.”

The Huskers return seven letterwinners, including three starters, from a team that went 23-11 and reached the 2024 NCAA Tournament. NU is led by senior duo Brice Williams (13.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.5 apg) and Juwan Gary (11.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg) and adds the services of seven Division-I seniors to the lineup -Transfers added.

Fans can request free general admission tickets at Huskers.com/Tickets beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2. Students can reserve a limited number of Red Zone seats and students can attend Huskers starting Wednesday, October 2nd at 12 p.m. com/students for more information on applying for your ticket. Current season ticket holders should check their email for a special presale event on Tuesday, October 1st. There is a limit of six tickets per account.

Free parking is available for the scrimmage in parking lots around the Devaney Center and on the Innovation Campus.

The Red/White Scrimmage is the second of two preseason fan events leading up to the 2024-25 season. Opening night presented by SCHEELS will take place next Friday, October 4th at 7pm at the Railyard on Canopy Street. The event is also open to the public.
