IRVING, Texas – Three-time defending American Athletic Conference women’s soccer champion Memphis was voted the favorite for 2024 by the league’s head coaches in the preseason.

The Tigers received nine first-place votes and a total of 99 points, making them the favorites. South Florida finished second with 91 points and one first-place vote, while East Carolina finished third with 73 points. Charlotte received the remaining first-place votes and a total of 72 points, finishing fourth. Florida Atlantic finished fifth with 64 points, followed by North Texas (54), Tulsa (46), UTSA (41), UAB (32), Rice (21) and Temple (12). Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

The American also announced the 2024 American Athletic Conference women’s soccer watch list selected by the conference’s head coaches. The watch list includes 2023 American Midfielder of the Year and 2023 Rookie of the Year Momo Nakao and Anna Hauer of Memphis. Nakao and Jordan Frederick of Tulsa were named to the 2023 All-AAC First Team, while seven members of the watch list were named to the Second Team (Hauer, Payton Patrick of Charlotte, Annabelle Abbott and Maeve English of East Carolina, Jodi Smith of Florida Atlantic, Georgia Brown of South Florida and Kaylyn Simmons of Tulsa).

The 2024 American Women’s Soccer Championship will be held November 4-10 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
