Melania Trump spreads conspiracy theory online about shooting at rally | Donald Trump shooting at rally in Pennsylvania

Former First Lady Melania Trump raised questions about law enforcement’s response to the attempted assassination of her husband in a video she released Tuesday to promote her new book.

In the 34-second video posted to her X account, Melania initially describes the attempted murder of her husband as a “horrific, disturbing experience.” And now, she says in the video, which is set to dramatic instrumental music, “the silence around it feels heavy.”

“I wonder why the police didn’t arrest the shooter before the speech,” she asks in the video. “There is definitely more to this story and we need to find out the truth.”

The video then fades to black and ends with a picture of the cover of her new autobiography “Melania” and a link to purchase copies.

Donald Trump himself recently blamed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for the assassination attempt without providing any evidence, accusing them of making it difficult for the Secret Service to find the personnel needed to protect him. Conspiracy theories surrounding the shooting are circulating in some Republican and right-wing circles.

There is no evidence that the US President or his Vice President were directly involved in or interfered with the Secret Service’s preparations. Nor is there any evidence that there was a larger plot to assassinate Trump beyond the lone gunman who was killed moments after the shooting began.

Melania’s website states that her memoir, which she describes as “the powerful and inspirational story of a woman who defined personal excellence, overcame adversity and forged her own path,” is available for pre-order for $40.

A signed edition is also available for $75, and a collector’s edition that includes a signature, bonus photos, and a “digital collectible” is sold for $250.

Since the assassination attempt on the former president on July 13 in Pennsylvania, in which 20-year-old Thomas Crooks opened fire on Trump as he spoke at a campaign rally, the FBI and Secret Service have been under intense scrutiny and criticism for security deficiencies at the event.

Trump survived the shooting but suffered an ear injury. One rally attendee was killed and two others injured in the attack. The gunman was shot dead at the scene by a Secret Service agent.

The former first lady’s remarks on Tuesday come as investigations are underway into the events of that day, as well as the decisions and actions of staff leading up to the event.

Over the past two months, new details have emerged about the period leading up to July 13 and apparent security and communication failures within and between law enforcement agencies. New details have also emerged about the shooter himself, such as his wanted history and the preparations for the attack. However, FBI officials have not yet been able to uncover a motive for the attack.

In late July, the director of the Secret Service resigned after a hearing in which she was criticized by lawmakers for the apparent security lapses surrounding the shooting and for failing to answer some specific questions about the incidents. A day later, the House voted to form a task force to investigate the security lapses at the rally, and in late August, at least five U.S. Secret Service agents were placed on leave in connection with the July 13 rally.
