    Along with her current singles “Whoops” and “Been Like This” and a well-received tour in support of her new album “Timeless,” Meghan Trainor’s music is suddenly more ubiquitous than ever.

    Her “Criminals,” a companion to the deluxe version of “Timeless,” quickly gained pop culture takeover status through its use in the end credits of the dance sequence of Nicole Kidman’s soapy Netflix crime drama. “A perfect couple” (“The coolest achievement of my life,” says Trainor).

    On weekdays, she can also be heard as the sassy voice on the theme song of “Today with Hoda and Jenna,” the fourth hour of the frothy morning show and a frequent guest appearance by Trainor (“I’ve known Hoda (Kotb) since I was 19. It’s like mine second home when I go there,” she says.

    Since breaking through a decade ago with the unconventional pop hit “All About That Bass,” which combined doo-wop with hip-hop overtones, Trainor’s powerful lyrics, often about body positivity, and bold music (“No,” “Made You “) “Look” and “Lips Are Movin'” (among her hits) made her a pop idol.

    Trainor is currently on tour through October — with husband Daryl Sabara and sons Riley, 3, and Barry, 14 months in tow — and took some time before a show in Atlanta to chat about touring and life essentials .

    How Meghan Trainor learned self-acceptance

    Two of Trainor’s new songs, “I Wanna Thank Me” with new girlfriend Niecy Nash and “Been Like This” with T-Pain, are about self-acceptance. Trainor says her 30th birthday last December and growing up in general have boosted her confidence.

    “I’ve heard that when you’re 30, you care less about what other people think, and I feel like that’s true,” she says. “I focus more on myself and my real life than on what is online or written about me. I know that after having children, I still struggle with self-love for my body. But I try to write songs that everyone can relate to,” and that’s what I see on this tour when I look out and see people who are 3, 18, 30, or grandparents.

    Meghan Trainor says: “A hit is a hit”

    Trainor’s music has some inimitable qualities. Their mix of old-fashioned harmonies, framed by girl groups from the 60s, coupled with current pop trends makes them – in the truest sense of the word – a distinctive voice in a wealth of musical clichés.

    Her influences are deep and varied, and she and her husband are already instilling an appreciation for classical sounds in their sons.

    “At home at breakfast Daryl will be playing Sam Cooke and Ray Charles and I’ll see him and the boys dancing around. “Songs like ‘Be My Baby’ by The Ronettes – Riley will notice it and want to know who’s singing it,” says Trainor. “A hit song is a hit song, no matter the time period.”

    Why Meghan Trainor is grateful for Brandy and T-Pain

    Trainor is a huge fan of Katy Perry and recently told SiriusXM that the “Teenage Dream” star is her biggest inspiration.

    But when she attended high school in Massachusetts, it was Brandy and T-Pain’s music that resonated the most.

    “Brandy’s ‘Human’ album and every T-Pain album got me through high school,” Trainor says. “When I thought, ‘I don’t belong here, I should be writing songs in LA and not sitting in an astronomy class,’ I would go to the bathroom and record my songs.”

    T-Pain is featured on Trainor’s latest song “Been Like This,” and the full-circle moment isn’t lost on her.

    “I’ve made it loud and clear that T-Pain is my king – I think that’s why he did a song with me. And now he’s family forever,” she says.

    Trainor is also a fan of calypso music – her uncle is from Trinidad – and often has it played backstage while she prepares for a show.

    “My hairdresser asks, ‘What is that? I.’ Love It!’ It could be raining or the worst day and it just makes you feel good,” she says.

    How Meghan Trainor is on tour with two small children

    The Timeless tour is Trainor’s first in eight years and she admits she’s still getting used to the rigors of road life. But she is also better prepared and has learned to slow down and take care of herself, prioritizing sleep.

    But it is also her first tour with her children. The changes required some adjustment, but Trainor and Sabara developed a routine.

    “We have an incredible nanny, and she and Daryl bathe (the kids) in my green room and we put them in their pajamas and cuddle (before I go on stage). Then Daryl and the nanny put them on the bus. We’ll take notes, if we do this again we’ll know what else we need – like more hands on deck.”

    The tour bus is stocked with RXBAR protein snacks for Trainor and Haribo gummy bears for the kids and the day is typically playtime, with the family exploring indoor playgrounds, parks and aquariums – they visited the massive Georgia Aquarium before their show in the Atlanta area early of the month – to explore.

    Why does Meghan Trainor’s hair look so good?

    Trainor’s golden locks look particularly radiant on tour, but she defers compliments to her stylist Antoine Martinez. She agreed and got pearl extensions for the tour, a recommendation from Martinez to reduce the pulling on her hair each show night.

    “It takes forever trying to wash it, so I use dry shampoo,” Trainor says, then adds with a laugh, “I live with pop star hair day and night.”
