MEDINA, Ohio – Superintendent Aaron Sable praised the school district’s good relationship with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation as the Board of Education voted to renew the district’s services contract with the organization.
The Board approved a five-year services agreement with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation to provide sports medicine and athletic training services to Medina High School from August 1, 2024, through July 31, 2029.
“We have a unique partnership with them,” Sable said. “Although the agreement states $102,000, we are not actually paying that amount. The agreement is an exchange of services where the Cleveland Clinic Foundation provides us with an athletic trainer and his services and we provide them with marketing and promotional opportunities in the district.”
Sable said the Cleveland Clinic’s advertising and signs outside the school’s stadium are an example of these marketing opportunities.
“We have built a very good partnership with them and it saves the district a lot of money,” he said.
Board member Rebecca Parkhurst asked if athletic trainers are present at certain sporting events throughout the year.
Sable said there are certain programs, such as high school competitions, where the athletic trainer’s presence is required, while other events, such as freshman or middle school competitions, may not have the coach present. He added, however, that the coach is housed at the high school and is available to all student-athletes.
“We are also very fortunate to be located in close proximity to our security services. If an emergency occurs, the response is extremely fast,” he said.
