Lydia Ko is worth her weight in gold and has made history for New Zealand.

The 27-year-old Ko was tied with the leader at the start of the round and took the lead with three birdies on the first nine holes. But she made a double bogey on the 13th hole and fell from a three-stroke lead to one shot behind Germany’s Esther Henseleit, who finished about an hour ahead of Ko with a 66, reaching 8 under par and applying pressure.

But Ko persevered through the wet closing holes of Le Golf Nationals, avoided trouble and made four straight pars to reach the par-5 final hole with a one-stroke lead. Ko lined up on the par-5, hit a wedge to 6 feet and sank the Biride putt to take the win by two strokes.

Henseleit won silver. China’s Xiyu Lin took bronze, one shot behind.

With the win, Ko earns a gold medal in addition to her silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and her bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. She is the only golfer with an Olympic medal in each color. The win also earned her enough career points to meet the LPGA Hall of Fame criteria, securing her a place among the game’s all-time greats.

For the United States, reigning gold medalist Nelly Korda finished the tournament with a score of 1 under par. Rose Zhang struggled in the final group, missing the title by three points with a 74. Lilia Vu finished the tournament with a score of 5 over par.
