What a homecoming for Mckenna Wucherer.

The former Brookfield Central volleyball standout was back in Milwaukee over the holiday weekend for the State Farm Women’s College Volleyball Showcase at Fiserv Forum.

While most of the attention was focused on the event’s top three 10 teams, 18th-seeded Minnesota stole the show by surprising No. 1 seed Texas in a five-set thriller in Monday night’s final match.

Wucherer crowned the victory with 22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 13-25, 15-7 with the last kill.

Mckenna Wucherer was outstanding at Brookfield Central

Wucherer’s cross-court smash will bring her national recognition, but she has long been known in local volleyball circles.

At Brookfield Central, she was the only player in WIAA Division 1 history to be selected to the All-State first team four times. She led the Lancers to their first appearance in the state tournament. She competed for Team USA at the U18 World Championships.

Games in the Fiserv Forum receive the approval of Giannis Antetokounmpo

Wucherer joined the Golden Gophers in eighth grade.

She knew she would be returning to her home state for the games against the University of Wisconsin, but never expected to be at Fiserv Forum.

While most spectators had moved on from UW’s game against Stanford earlier in the day, dozens of family members and friends were able to watch Wucherer help Minnesota to its first win over a top team since 2019. She finished the game with 12 kills.

Wucherer even scored a winning goal off the pitch at the weekend.

Minnesota’s social media posted a photo of Wucherer and teammate Phoebe Awoleye next to the “Fear the Deer” sign in the hallway near the Milwaukee Bucks’ locker room. Awoleye wore Damian Lillard’s No. 0 jersey, while Wucherer wore Giannis Antetokounmpo’s famous No. 34.

Antetokounmpo was flattered. In his free time from the wedding festivities in Greece, the two-time MVP responded with two “fire” emojis.
