McDonald’s is finally selling the Chicken Big Mac in the US

When McDonald’s launched the Chicken Big Mac in the UK, it sold out within 10 days. Now they are probably hoping for similar success in the United States.

Starting October 10, the highly anticipated sandwich will be sold at McDonald’s locations across the U.S. for a limited time. The Chicken Big Mac is similar to its beefy brother; However, it replaces the two burgers with two tempura chicken patties. It also includes the signature Big Mac sauce, pickles, shredded lettuce and a slice of American cheese.

McDonald’s has been vocal about adding more chicken to its menu, which is generally cheaper than beef. CEO Chris Kempczinski said in its most recent earnings release that it was focused on adding “growth drivers like chicken” to reverse declining sales. Chicken sales at his restaurants are now on par with beef sales, he added.

In a news release Thursday, McDonald’s says its customers are “crying out” for the Chicken Big Mac after it previously appeared on the chain’s menu around the world. Its (brief) 2022 release in the UK and Ireland was the “most popular launch ever” for a sandwich in those countries.

The Chicken Big Mac has already made a brief appearance in the USA: In 2022, McDonald’s released it as a test in some of its restaurants in Miami to get feedback from customers.

All fast food chains are fighting for dollars from American diners who are not eating out as often and are spending less, causing fast food sales to decline and restaurant traffic to decline.

As a result, companies have released inexpensive meals, new items and special promotions to boost sales. McDonald’s is currently testing a new burger called the Big Arch in Canada with two patties, cheese, crispy toppings and spicy sauce, which could be brought to the US if successful.

McDonald’s $5 meal deal will remain on the menu through December, likely a sign that inflation-weary customers are gobbling it up. The chain will release its results in November.
