Matchbox Twenty Singer Rob Thomas has not acted much in his career, unless you count his cameo appearances in the TV shows It’s always sunny in Philadelphia And iZombie. But he reveals that he is trying to develop a television series in which he would play a larger-than-life version of himself.

In conversation with vultureRob says he is in talks with one of the showrunners of Two and a half men about creating a series called Rob Thomas can’t say no. “It is a kind of Larry David-type thing about a version of me living up here in Westchester,” says Rob, who actually lives in the New York suburb.

This version of Rob, says the singer, “has trouble saying ‘no’ to people and puts himself in uncomfortable situations where I try to do the right thing, but no matter what I do, it just digs me deeper into some kind of hole and new obligations.”

But Rob says there’s one thing stopping him from being on the show.

“The whole thing depends on me being in the role, so we’re always discussing it and trying to figure out if I’m comfortable with it,” he says.

Last year Rob and Matchbox Twenty released a new album, Where the light goes. At the beginning of the year he posted on Instagram that he has started recording a new solo album, which was to be the successor to his holiday album, Something about the Christmas seasonwhich came out in 2021.

One trend might be for pop singers to appear as exaggerated versions of themselves in television series. Huey Lewis just announced that he makes one for Fox, called Whatever happened to Huey Lewis.
