Massachusetts State Lottery Winner: Ticket Worth $10 Million Sold at Sandwich Shop

A lottery ticket with a $10 million prize was sold at a sandwich shop and picked up on Wednesday – without the winner revealing his name.

The $10 million prize came from “$10,000,000 Bonanza,” a $20 scratch-off game released on August 6.

This was the first $10 million prize claimed in the game, with two more available to claim until September 5th. There are also five $1 million prizes still up for grabs.

A trust called the WSB Family Trust of Wellesley, represented by trustee James Goodhue, opted for the cash payout and received the winning payment of $6.5 million before taxes. The winner said he plans to build a new home and invest his winnings.

The $10 million ticket was purchased at Coletti’s Market, a sandwich shop at 470 N. Main St. in Raynham. The shop will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

While lottery winners in Massachusetts cannot claim their winnings anonymously, they are allowed to set up a trust to claim their winnings without their names being made public.

The trustee’s representative delivers the winning ticket, receives the check and deposits it into a bank account set up for the beneficiary.

“Winnings may be claimed by a trust or other entity that meets the definition of an entity,” Mark William Bracken, executive director of the Massachusetts State Lottery, told MassLive.

“The identity of the trustee or legal representative is made public. In recent years we have seen an increase in the number of large awards claimed by trusts.”
