Mass Pike reopened after truck rollover and hazardous materials accident in Westboro – Boston News, Weather, Sports
WESTBORO, MASS. (WHDH) – The Massachusetts Turnpike reopened late Thursday afternoon in Westboro after a truck flipped on its side and closed part of the road for hours, officials said.
At around 2:30 p.m., Westboro firefighters arrived at the scene of the accident on the west side of the highway, just before Interstate 495, the Westboro Fire Department said. In a Facebook post, the fire department said there were injuries and a hazardous substance leak.
The driver, a 74-year-old man from Worcester, suffered minor injuries, according to Massachusetts State Police.
According to MassDOT, westbound traffic was diverted via Route 9 (Exit 111).
“Fire crews on scene then began draining the truck’s fuel tank to allow it to be easily moved while a comprehensive recovery plan was developed with the goal of reopening the lane,” Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.
As of 4:32 p.m., all lanes were reopened, MassDOT said in an X-post.
Traffic congestion was still occurring on I-90 late Thursday afternoon.
