BEL AIR, Maryland – Police in Maryland continue to be inundated with threats at schools.

Two more were reported on Wednesday.

The first happened in Harford County.

According to the sheriff’s office, a Snapchat post began circulating overnight that said, “The school is being raided, this is a threat.”

Officers launched an investigation that led them to the home of the alleged suspect, who turned out to be a high school student.

The teenager was eventually charged with threatening to commit an act of violence.

“Under Maryland law, we are not permitted to release the name of the student accused of this crime to the public or the school,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

In the last 13 hours alone, the sheriff’s office says it has investigated three cases of threats against schools.

Last week there were eleven threats in Harford County.

This, of course, follows the fatal shooting earlier this month at Joppatowne High School.

A school in Baltimore City was also the target of threats on Thursday morning.

School officials said they received a prank call reporting that a person was armed with a gun at Montebello Elementary/Middle School.

Baltimore police said they investigated the threat in light of a possible shooting spree but later found it to be unfounded.

Officials sent a text message or automated call to notify parents that everyone was safe, and the child was released at the usual time.

Last week, WMAR-2 News reported on disturbing trends regarding threats at schools released by the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Within 24 hours, Anne Arundel detectives followed up on 14 tips about possible threats at the school, more than the 13 tips they had received the previous week.

At that time, 42 threats against schools had been reported nationwide within 36 hours.
