The gunman reportedly fled the school, sparking fears that a shooting might occur, before he was arrested within minutes at a nearby apartment complex, authorities said.

School staff and police responded quickly and within 15 minutes over 100 officers were on site.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office warned the public to avoid the area, but stressed that this was an “isolated incident.”

It is currently unclear what led to the fight. The investigation is ongoing.

Gahler said the victim is in critical condition in the hospital and is believed to have been the only one shot.

Gahler said the suspect was allegedly “known” to authorities, but it was currently unclear in what capacity.

The shooting came just days after 14-year-old Colt Gray went on a bloody rampage that left four people dead at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.

Armed with an assault rifle, the teenager pointed the weapon at students in a school hallway when classmates refused to hold the door open for him.

The two 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo as well as the teachers Christina Irmie (53) and Richard Aspinall (39) were killed.

At least nine others were injured.

Images showed students streaming onto campus while terrified parents searched for their children. One mother described the scene outside the school as pure “chaos.”
