A Marvel Studios executive explains where Agents of SHIELD fits into the canon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the main Marvel timeline is currently seeing more television shows than ever before, the original TV era of the franchise still holds the title of the series that ran the longest, namely Agents of SHIELD. Despite the success of the spy drama Agents of SHIELDIts place in the MCU canon has always been a big mystery, especially after the end of the ABC series.

In a new interview with Screen Rant to promote the upcoming premiere of Agatha all the timeBrad Winderbaum, head of TV, streaming and animation at Marvel Studios, was asked about Agents of SHIELD and the chances that the Marvel TV drama is actually canon, as it fits really well into the MCU. Although I have a great love for Agents of SHIELD, Winderbaum felt that the show fit even better into the Multiverse Sagaand said the following:

I think Agents of SHIELD is a really great show and for a long time some of the best reveals in the show were during the Winter Soldier era when Hydra showed up and you were like, “Oh my God!” I remember that feeling, even though I knew what was happening, just being a fan, and thinking, “It’s really connected!” I think in a crazy way, like you said, it feels like it fits into the Multiverse Saga in an incredible way. I want to walk that path with you, you know I do, but we’re going to take a deep breath for a minute. Just know that I love this cast, I love Clark Gregg and I love this show.

Although it is apparently confirmed to take place in the larger MCU multiverse, Agents of SHIELDThe canonical context is still one of the most confusing situations when it comes to Marvel Studios. When Agents of SHIELD was conceived first, It was created as a direct offshoot of The Avengerswith Greggs Phil Coulson at the helmThe idea was to expand the SHIELD organization that began in the MCU films and to incorporate crossovers whenever appropriate.

In 2023, Kevin Feige stated in Marvel Studios: The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline that while there were other shows and films from other storytellers, the titles mentioned in the book were specifically intended for the MCU’s Sacred Timeline. Agents of SHIELDThe canon status was still a mystery, as some seasons directly followed on from some MCU films. Avengers: Age of Ultron is a massive example of how It was Coulson who secretly helped the Avengers find Loki’s scepterand used the Theta Protocol to secure a helicarrier to rescue the people of Sokovia.

Because Agents of SHIELD‘S The MCU timeline makes it very clear that it fits into the Sacred Timeline. It is unclear why Marvel Studios treats it as not fully connected. After 2027, however, it may not matter anymore, because Avengers: Secret Wars Rumours say there will be a soft reboot for the franchisewhich could mean that all of these timelines will become one. If that is the case, hopefully it will Agents of SHIELD Characters returning to the fold, as there are several great characters lined up for a movie appearance.
