Marvel manager explains why the Avengers wouldn’t work as a Disney+ series

According to Marvel Studios producer, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t be on screen anytime soon Brad Winderbaum.

Although the Avengers have appeared on screen in animated form several times, most notably in The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (2010-12) and Avengers Assemble (2013-19), they have never come together in a live-action series. However, that hasn’t stopped members of the Avengers from appearing in a live-action show in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Clint Barton/Hawkeye headlines his own Disney+ series of the same name, while Bruce Banner/Hulk made a guest appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

In an interview with CinemaBlend to promote Marvel Studios’ latest Disney+ series, Agatha All Along, Winderbaum explained why MCU fans will never see the Avengers united on the small screen, despite significant interest from the fanbase.

“I think the Avengers is about the fact that one day Earth’s mightiest heroes had to come together. In a feature film that makes a statement, it makes sense that there would be an event that would bring them all together. I think that in a long-running television series, it’s more challenging to have ‘It came one day’ every day,” he said. “In the comics, you can do that. It’s the Marvel universe and spectacular things just happen there all the time.”

Winderbaum continued, “If you read the comics, you know that the Avengers actually put themselves together and then take them apart, and then put them back together and then take them apart again. Is that possible? Yes. But from a narrative perspective, it becomes a kind of rise and fall, which … could be really interesting for a long-form story. But for a television series, it would be a very unique pattern.”

When will the Avengers meet again?

At the time of this writing, the Avengers have appeared in five MCU films so far – Marvel’s The Avengers (2012), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will reunite at least two more times in the MCU, starting with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which will see Robert Downey Jr. take on the role of Doctor Doom. The team will also appear in the direct sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars.

A Young Avengers project has also been teased. In the post-credits scene of The Marvels (2023), Ms. Marvel approaches Kate Bishop/Hawkeye with a request to form their own superhero team, with Cassie Lang mentioned as another possible member. However, Marvel Studios has not officially announced such a project yet.

All four Avengers films can be streamed on Disney+.
