Mark Cuban: Trump has “new tax cuts or tariffs for every city he visits”

Former President Donald Trump has proposed a series of drastic tariffs that could hit US companies if he is elected in November. Billionaire investor Mark Cuban comments on the matter in a series of comments.

“Trump has a new tax cut or tariff for every city he visits. Even if it goes against his own policies or the law,” Cuban wrote in an X-post on Tuesday.

In an exchange with X-user @AndySwan, Cuban criticized Trump’s economic policies while defending Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.

“I’ll tell you what I know from my conversations. Her campaign team actually thinks about proposals before they make them,” Cuban said of Harris’ team.

Cuban is undoubtedly a vocal supporter of Harris. The “Shark Tank” star not only supports her economic agenda, but also praises Harris for her pro-business stance.

In a September 5 CNBC interview, he also praised Harris for helping entrepreneurs get investments and making it easier for startups to get off the ground.

Cuban is not a fan of Trump’s tariffs

This week, Cuban has turned his attention to Trump’s proposed tariffs and other economic proposals.

On Monday, Cuban sharply criticized Trump’s demand for 200 percent tariffs on agricultural machinery maker John Deere, calling it “crazy” and a “good way to destroy a legendary American company.”

At a political roundtable discussion in Pennsylvania on Monday, Trump threatened to impose a 200% tariff on all products that John Deere manufactures in Mexico but sells to the USAThe former president was responding to John Deere’s plan to move part of its production process to Mexico by the end of 2026.

“Impose a 200% tariff on American companies that move some of their production to Mexico,” Cuban wrote on X. “But impose 10 or 20% tariffs on Chinese manufacturers so that Chinese products can be sold cheaper in the United States than those of American companies.”

To support Cuban’s argument, Trump has addressed the issue of tariffs at several campaign events.

On Tuesday, at a campaign rally in Georgia, Trump outlined another aspect of his manufacturing plan – this time involving U.S. automakers. Trump said that if elected, he would impose a 100 percent tariff on all cars made in Mexico.

“With the vision I’m laying out today, we will not only prevent our companies from moving overseas, but under my leadership, we will take jobs away from other countries,” Trump told rally attendees.

Separately, at a rally in New York last week, Trump also floated the idea of temporarily capping credit card interest rates at around 10%. Notably, Trump’s proposal goes further than the 15% cap that Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont had already proposed in May 2019.

Overall, Cuban says, Trump’s actions make him look more like a Marxist than Harris. Trump and his supporters have often accused Harris of being a communist.

“Who proposed price controls? Trump. Who proposed tariffs on all imports because he doesn’t understand them? Trump. Who said he would punish companies that manufacture in Mexico when his law, the USMCA, allows it? Is that proving he doesn’t know his own policies? Trump,” Cuban wrote in a post on X on Tuesday.

“He’s a much bigger Marxist than she could ever be. He just doesn’t know it yet,” Cuban added.

Cuban and representatives from the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.
