Marion County, Oregon: Brushland truck on its way to a forest fire

Two firefighters from Marion County Fire District #1 were injured Wednesday when their fire engine overturned while fighting a wildfire.

The Type 6 fire engine was en route to the Town Gulch Fire as part of the Clackamas County Task Force when it skidded on State Highway 86 near Baker City, Oregon, the Salem Reporter reported.

Marion County Battalion Chief Mark Bjorkland told the Salem Reporter that the fire truck struck gravel before going down an embankment. Firefighters were able to extricate themselves from the vehicle.

The two firefighters were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Today, two Marion County Fire District employees were injured while responding to a car fire with non-life-threatening injuries. Both employees are currently receiving treatment. We are grateful to the Oregon State Fire Marshal and Oregon State Police for standing by our employees during these stressful times,” the fire district said in a post.

The fire has burned thousands of acres of land in Baker County east of Baker City.

“We remain committed to the safety of our employees, both at home and during our response operations to those threatened by wildfires across the state,” the State Fire Marshal’s Office said in a statement.
