Mario Cristobal shares his thoughts after the overwhelming victory against South Florida

The Miami Hurricanes separated clearly from the annoying USF Bulls on Saturday night, showed their muscles and looked like a team that really fought for a place in the upcoming College Football PlayoffThe Hurricanes showed the outstanding speed of their offensive playmakers like Samuel Brown and freshman running back Jordan Lyle. Their defensive performance in the second half also pleased their head coach, Mario Cristobal.

After the 50-15 win, Cristobal shared his thoughts with Kris Budden on the USF court. Budden asked him what it was like to get a shutout in the second half. What did he like about his defense tonight?

“Just pitched a shutout. Then they decided. We’re going to start playing at the level of Miami Hurricane football. And that’s blocking and tackling. Getting guys on the ground. And getting off the field on third down. The defense was unbelievable. And I think that was epitomized by an interception after that interference call,” Cristobal explained.

Cam Ward was pretty incredible tonight. What impresses you most about him the more you see him here on game day, the way he manages the offense? “He’s just unfazed. He’s the ultimate leader. The defense thrives on him. He thrives on defense. He just wants to get better. He’s probably going to be really hard on himself and feels like he missed some shots out there today. You can’t say enough good things about the guy,” Cristobal concluded.

Cam Ward had quite a spectacular day, completing 70.6% of his passes for 404 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The Hurricanes’ offense set a new record by scoring a total of 209 points in four games, the most points Miami has scored in four games in school history.

After the game, Ward also spoke with Kris Budden on the field.

“I felt like I was getting too nervous to make the big play at the beginning. But as the game went on, I was able to hit my receivers. That’s all I have to do. I just have to play around them and let them play,” he explained.

How much fun is the ‘Canes’ offense given the many weapons at their disposal?

“It’s really fun. Especially when you’re the quarterback here. All you have to do is hand the ball off and throw it to wide open guys. So the receivers came in. We told them it was going to be a challenge for them, but they rose to the challenge. But these guys fight the defense every day. They’re going to do their job, you know. And I’m going to put the ball in play and we’re going to try to get another win,” Ward concluded.
