Mariners vs. Astros prediction, odds and likely pitchers for Tuesday, September 24 (Tru

The Seattle Mariners kept their hopes of winning the AL West alive by defeating the Houston Astros on Monday night.

Now Logan Gilbert will try to keep the dream alive as Seattle is four games back with five games left to play.

Houston is out of the running for first place in the AL, but a win in the AL West would give it home-field advantage in the wilderness – or ALDS, depending on how the Cleveland Guardians perform – in the postseason.

Here’s a breakdown of the odds, the key players to keep an eye on and my tip for Tuesday’s game.

Seattle Mariners

Logan Gilbert: After losing five straight games, the Mariners have won his last two games, improving their record to 14-17 when he steps on the mound in 2024. The young right-hander is a bit unlucky when you look at his record, as he is pitching to a 3.19 FIP and a 3.24 ERA this season. Not only that, Gilbert has allowed fewer than four earned runs in 25 of his 31 games.

Houston Astros

Framber Valdez: Over the last two months, Valdez has been outstanding, posting a 1.33 ERA in eight starts. He has allowed just 25 hits in 54.1 innings, and the Astros are 6-2 in those appearances.

The Mariners have struggled with left-handed pitchers all season and are ranked 24th in MLB OPS.

This isn’t a great matchup, as Valdez has hit his stride in the second half of the season, allowing three or fewer earned runs in all but one start since July 1.

Additionally, he held Seattle in check in his last game against the team, allowing just two runs in Houston’s 4-2 win.

The Astros didn’t get the job done on Monday, but with Valdez as the starter, I trust them to win the AL West. Houston is excellent at home (11 games over .500), while the Mariners are just nine games under .500 on the road.
