Margaret Qualley says Jack Antonoff got her role in Happy Gilmore 2

Margaret Qualley had to polish her resume to get the chance to work with one of her screen favorites.

The actress revealed that her husband Jack Antonoff “lied” to Adam Sandler about her golf experience when he lobbied to add her to the cast of his upcoming Netflix sequel Happy Gilmore 2 after the original 1996 comedy was her “favorite film” and its star was her “first great love.”

“I saw that there was a Happy Gilmore 2 and I immediately emailed my agent and said, “Whatever it takes – no role is too small. Please. I have to be in it, I’m begging you. Please. Whatever it takes,” Qualley recalled on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Host Jimmy Fallon then showed a text exchange between Antonoff and Sandler in which the latter asked, “Does your wife even play golf?” to which the Bleachers frontman replied, “Yeah, she’s actually good.”

“What a good husband. And I can’t play golf,” Qualley said. “He lied for the sake of the family. … I’ve never played golf a day in my life. In fact, I’m terrible.”

Qualley said she has “taken some lessons, but overall I’m still bad.”

The Golden Globe nominee said her role in Happy Gilmore 2 was “the best thing that ever happened to me,” noting, “It’s a tiny role. I’m basically a deep background, but I can die happy now.”

Sandler started production on Happy Gilmore 2 Earlier this month in New Jersey, where he shared a photo of his title character’s Boston Bruins hockey jersey on a clothes rack. “It’s not over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun,” he wrote at the time.

In addition to Sandler, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald also reprise their roles for the sequel, which also stars Travis Kelce, Bad Bunny, Benny Safdie and Lee Trevino.
