Marcel Reed and Texas A&M lead at halftime after weather-related interruption

The Texas A&M Aggies faced questions about their quarterback position ahead of Saturday’s SEC opener against the Florida Gators, but Marcel Reed helped allay any concerns.

With Connor Weigman as a backup, who was questionable early in the game due to a shoulder injury, Reed led the Aggies to a 20-0 halftime lead on the road against Florida after a brief lightning delay forced the teams to return to the locker rooms before the start of the second quarter.

The Aggies quickly took a 10-0 lead after leading two consecutive drives with a 29-yard touchdown to Theo Melin Ohrstrom late in the first quarter.

Not long after, the Aggies doubled their lead, starting with a nine-play, 24-yard drive that ended in a field goal.

After a quick stop by the Aggies, the offense went back to work. Reed led a 15-play, 99-yard touchdown drive that took seven minutes and 15 seconds off the game clock. That possession was capped with a one-yard touchdown run by Reed that made the score 20-0 Texas A&M.

In the game, Reed was extremely impressive, completing 10 of 15 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown while running seven times for 49 yards and another touchdown. He also benefited from a one-two performance from Le’Veon Moss and Amari Danieles, who ran nine times for 41 yards and seven times for 43 yards.

The Aggies’ defense was also on point, holding the Gators to just 73 total yards and three first downs and one interception.

The Aggies hope to shut down the Gators in the same way in the second half.
