The provincial government has issued an expression of interest (EOI) for the purchase or long-term lease of Marble Mountain Ski Resort.

The document states: “The Province is interested in engaging with potential proponents who may be interested in presenting a sustainable business model and are willing to invest in the resort, including maintaining/improving the ski facilities to maintain the benefits to the western region of Newfoundland and Labrador.”

It continues: “It is the province’s desire to position the resort for long-term success through private investment.”

Interested buyers have until September 13 to submit their EOI.

In June 2018, the provincial government issued a request for proposals as part of its efforts to privatise the resort. However, three years later, it cancelled the tender, citing that it had only received three proposals and that aspects of the proposals had changed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nearly 150 people work at Marble Mountain in the winter, and dozens more even in the off-season. Plus, the ski hill drives business for other hotels, restaurants and gas stations in the Corner Brook area when Marble is open.
