Man thrown from truck dies

A man died Friday night after being thrown from a pickup truck in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Eastland County, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Kelly Michael Sims, 62, of Fort Worth crashed after skidding and was pronounced dead by a doctor at Eastland Memorial Hospital, according to the DPS news release Saturday

Sims was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck west on Interstate Highway 20, a half-mile from Eastland, at 7:01 p.m. Thursday when the accident occurred.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the pickup truck was traveling in the inside lane when the driver drifted left onto the median and oversteered back onto the roadway, causing the truck to skid sideways.

The pickup truck crossed both westbound lanes, left the north side of the road and overturned, according to DPS. Sims was ejected from the pickup truck when it rolled. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Sims was taken to Eastland Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead by a doctor at 8:06 p.m. Thursday.

Texas Highway Patrol officers from Eastland investigated the accident.
