Man suffers ‘serious injuries’ in crash on A5 in Leicestershire as ‘car hits tree’

A man in his twenties has suffered serious injuries in a crash on the A5 in Leicestershire today (Saturday 24 August). The road was closed for several hours following the serious crash near Wigston Parva, which occurred just before midday.

Leicestershire Police have released an update this evening, confirming that a man is being treated for serious injuries. They are investigating the accident and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They said: “Police were called to the scene of an accident between the B4114 and High Cross shortly after 11.15am today (Saturday 24 August). On arrival it was found that a blue Volkswagen Golf GTI had left the road and collided with a tree.

“The driver – a man in his twenties who was the only occupant – was taken to hospital where he continues to be treated for serious injuries.”

Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Chanelle, of the police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), added: “Our enquiries into how the car left the road are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who can help to come forward.

“The car was travelling from Hinckley towards Lutterworth and I would like to speak to any motorists who have a dashcam in their vehicle or who saw the accident. I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the blue Golf before it happened.”
