Man arrested after fake robbery and burned-out taco truck

A man is accused of staging a robbery at his business to make an insurance claim, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said.

TCSO says they responded to a call from the area of ​​West Caldwell Avenue in Visalia on August 2, 2024.

The call came from a man who claimed his taco truck was involved in a robbery.

When TCSO officers arrived, the owner of the taco truck, Pablo Serrano, told them that the suspects had taken cash and his $80,000 truck during the robbery.

Detectives found the stolen truck burning in an orchard near Woodlake.

According to TCSO, the truck was a total loss.

A few days after the robbery, arsonists found evidence that Serrano had staged the robbery with his friends in order to make an insurance claim on the truck, valued at $80,000.

On August 12, 2024, detectives went to the taco truck and arrested Serrano for conspiracy to commit a crime, arson, and insurance fraud.

Juan Mendez was also arrested for conspiracy and arson.

The sheriff’s office says at least one person is wanted for questioning.
