Man arrested after breaking into his home and stealing a truck from the driveway: PD

BABYLON, NY — A Babylon man was arrested Sunday after breaking into a home and stealing a truck from the driveway, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the incident occurred at 7:06 a.m. Sunday on Araca Road in Babylon.

First Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting that an unknown person had stolen a vehicle from the driveway of the home. The homeowner followed the man in the stolen 2020 Dodge Ram and was able to stop him in front of another home a short distance away on Crescent, police said.

Daniel Shiels, 43, entered the house while three residents were inside and stole two car keys before disappearing with the Ram, police said.

Shiels was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal possession of stolen goods, police said.

He was held overnight at the Third Precinct to be arraigned Monday in First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
