Maintenance work on the bridge will be relocated to the access road to Loop 289 heading west

LUBBOCK, Texas (PRESS RELEASE) – Repairs to the eastbound Loop 289 feeder bridge at I-27 have been completed. Crews are expected to remove barriers, reopen all lanes and move work to the westbound I-27 feeder bridge on Tuesday, August 20, weather permitting.

The removal of the barricades requires that the access roads both east and west be closed to traffic. The operation is expected to last between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Maintenance and repair work on the westbound Loop 289 feeder bridge over I-27 is scheduled to begin next week. The work will require the westbound Loop 289 feeder road cloverleaf ramp to southbound I-27/US 87 and the northbound I-27 cloverleaf ramp to westbound Loop 289 to be closed to traffic.

Drivers on the I-27 northbound access road will be detoured to 66th Street West and then travel south on the I-27 access road to access westbound Loop 289.

Traffic on the westbound Loop 289 access road will be detoured to University Avenue and then onto the eastbound access road to access southbound I-27/US 87.

Motorists should expect lane closures on the westbound access bridge and expect traffic delays. They are also asked to slow down and use caution when driving through the construction areas as workers are working in close proximity to traffic.

The Loop 289 feeder bridges and several I-27 bridges are part of the $1.9 million project to replace bridge joints and bearing plates, make concrete repairs and upgrade guardrails on the bridge structures. Work on all bridges is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Work will take place weather permitting.
