Two types of macaroni and cheese are being recalled.
These products come from the same brand that is recalling a number of other ready-to-eat products due to consumer safety concerns.
Newsweek reports that Reser’s Fine Foods – which, according to its About Us page, is “one of the largest family-owned manufacturers of prepared foods” – has voluntarily recalled its American Classics Macaroni & Cheese White Cheddar (12 oz.) and American Classics Macaroni & Cheese (12 oz.) products over concerns that both had spoiled due to temperature abuse resulting from a refrigeration unit malfunction.
The same Newsweek article explains that at the time of publication of this report, these products were classified as Risk Class II. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defines this category as: “A situation in which use of or exposure to a noncompliant product may result in temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or the likelihood of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
Taste of Country notes that the recalled products are identified by the codes 7117.02009 and 7117.02123, which can be found on the barcodes, and have been confirmed to be distributed in California, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
However, as mentioned above, Newsweek adds that other products have also been given a Class II risk warning. These are:
- Reser’s Essential Everyday Original Potato Salad (16 oz)
- Reser’s American Classics Potato Gratin (12 ounces)
- Reser’s American Classics Asiago Creamed Spinach (12 oz)
