Louisiana state trooper clearing debris from road was hit

According to WBRZ, a Louisiana state trooper was injured in the line of duty on Wednesday evening.

Hurricane Francine made landfall in southeastern Louisiana as a Category 2 storm. Maximum sustained wind speeds at that time were 100 mph. The storm made landfall in Terrebonne around 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

As the storm continued to impact Iberia, St. Mary, Terrebonne and other communities, reports of downed power lines and trees were filed across the state.

Louisiana State Police Troop A in Baton Rouge responded to requests for assistance and rescue. One of the troopers’ primary tasks was to ensure that major roads were clear of debris.

A trooper entered eastbound I-10 west of Louisiana Highway 22 to remove a tree that was blocking the roadway. Unfortunately, at that time, the trooper was struck by another tree.

Fortunately for the police officer, only minor injuries were reported.

Another soldier who was also on site was able to take the injured soldier to a nearby hospital for treatment.
